Job Shadow Program at Ozarks Healthcare
A Job Shadow experience is defined as to follow and observe a medical professional as they carry out their roles and responsibilities at Ozarks Healthcare. Ozarks Healthcare (OZH) desires to assist high school, college students or an adult with an interest in healthcare to discover whether they want to pursue a future career in the healthcare profession. All requests for job shadowing must be received two weeks prior to the desired shadow day.
Who is Eligible to Participate?
• Must be 16 years or older (Parent or guardian signature is required for all applicants age 16 or 17)
• Enrolled in High School or College Courses
• An adult who has expressed interest in a healthcare career
Shadowing location requests are considered on an individual basis. Approval of the request is at the discretion of the office or department manager/supervisor with consideration of the unit’s staffing resources, the nature of the patient population, and the procedures performed.
Dress Code Guidelines
• Scrubs or business casual clothing attire
• No jeans or sweatpants
• No tank tops or bare midriffs
• No sandals, flip flops, or open-toed shoes
• No dangling jewelry
• No ball caps or hats
• If you have long hair, make sure it is pulled back
Requested Job Shadow Documentation:
- Copy of Photo ID
- Job Shadow Agreement signed/dated
- TB Test (negative TB Test within last 12 months)
- Immunization Documentation (Tdap, MMR x 2, and Varicella)
- Proof of current Influenza vaccination (only required if shadowing during the local Health Department’s declared flu season). Any Job Shadow who does not provide proof of Influenza vaccine must wear a mask at all times and within all areas of Ozarks Healthcare campus during the active flu season as defined above.
- Covid Vaccination Card or Exemption form (Please note: You may be asked to wear a mask during high transmission rates in Howell or surrounding counties.)
Step 1: Submit application
Complete the Job Shadow Application. Incomplete submissions will not receive approvals. If you are 16 or 17 years old, parent or guardian signature is required. After application is received, a packet will be emailed from the Education Department to the applicants with a list of required documentation.
*** Your application will remain active for 30 days while awaiting all required documentation. After 30 days, your application will become inactive. ***
Step 2: Provide all requested documentation
Send all documentation via email to k.bonds@ozhcare.com with “Job Shadowing Documents” in the subject line. You can also bring them in person to the Education Department, located within the Human Resources Office located at the Ozarks Healthcare Main Campus.
Step 3: Complete Online Job Shadow Orientation
Login information will be sent to applicant after application is received.
Step 4: Schedule Shadow Experience
Once all requested documentation has been received and the orientation has been completed, the Education Department will contact you that you have been approved and begin the scheduling process. Please allow up to two weeks for this process to be complete. Once we have approval from the department manager of the area requested, we will contact you with the approved date(s) and time(s).
Step 5: Pick-Up Job Shadow Badge
Before shadow day, you must pick up a job shadow badge from the Education Department, located within the Human Resources Department at the Main Campus of Ozarks Healthcare.
Step 7: Complete Post Job Shadow Survey
Once you have completed your job shadowing experience, please take a moment to complete the Post Job Shadow Reflection Survey about your Job Shadowing experience at Ozarks Healthcare. Your input is important to creating a positive learning experience for all student who job shadow at Ozarks Healthcare.
Step 8: Return Job Shadow Badge
After you have completed your shadowing experience, turn your job shadow badge back into the Education Department, located within the Human Resources Department at the Main Campus of Ozarks Healthcare in a timely manner.
FAQs:
Can I perform any procedures?
No, shadowing is observation only. If any attempt at a hands-on experience is made, you will be sent home immediately and flagged on all future job shadowing applications.
How old do you have to be to job shadow?
Must be 16 years or older. No exceptions will be made for anyone under the age of 16. Parent or guardian signature is required for all applicants age 16 or 17. You must be 18 to job shadow in the Emergency Department.
What immunizations do I need to job shadow?
• Varicella
• Measels, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)-2 doses
• Tdap
• Flu Shot (only required during flu season)
If I want to shadow more, what do I do?
Call the Education Department (417-256-9111, Ext. 5787) or email Katie Bonds (k.bonds@ozhcare.com) to schedule another shadowing experience. All paperwork is active for one year from the date of submission.
Can I schedule my own shadowing experiences?
All shadowing experiences must be approved through the education department. If you personally know someone and want to shadow them, please communicate this to the Education Department when scheduling.
