Also, the West Plains campus of Missouri State University provides academic and vocational education programs which include a registered and practical nursing program plus a respiratory care school. The West Plains area has prospered as a result of its central location for trade in southern Missouri as well as growth of its educational and health services.
Our hospital broke ground in June 2019 on the biggest expansion ever to our facility. The expansion is based on providing convenience for patients by placing more services under one roof. The location of the expansion connects the existing Shaw Medical Building and the current main hospital building housing almost all of Ozarks Healthcare’s specialty clinics and ancillary services to one location, creating a centralized space for patients. Specifically, the new construction of more than 120,000 square feet includes the construction of a new medical office building, flexible clinics, procedure suite, centralized imaging facilities, an updated pharmacy, a new food service area and a Starbucks. In addition, our new 20,000 square foot Women's Center houses modern labor and delivery rooms, gynecological surgery facilities and educational spaces.
These additions allow the facility to better serve more than 180,000 residents in South Central Missouri and Northern Arkansas, who prefer to stay close to home to utilize quality healthcare services. As confirmed by a federally required Community Health Needs Assessment, Ozarks Healthcare continues to grow its facilities, services and the Ozarks Healthcare Medical Group to align with the needs of the residents to improve the overall health of those they serve.
