Applications Open for Ozarks Healthcare’s 2023 M*A*S*H Camp
Applications for Ozarks Healthcare’s M*A*S*H (Medical Academy of Science and Health) Camp this summer are now open for area students who may be interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.
M*A*S*H Camp puts a twist on the traditional concept of a summer camp and gives students hands-on opportunities to explore different areas of the healthcare field and learn from physicians and staff on Ozarks Healthcare’s main campus. Last year, approximately 100 area students attended Ozarks Healthcare’s M*A*S*H Camp, and practiced hands-on intubation, anesthesia, and surgical techniques, along with physical therapy exercises and basic medical assessment. Students also toured different areas of Ozarks Healthcare’s hospital, including an operating room and cardiac catheterization (cath) lab.
“We are excited to host our M*A*S*H Camp again this summer, and hopefully open our local students’ eyes to the endless career possibilities that exist in healthcare,” Tom Keller, Ozarks Healthcare President and CEO, said. “Many do not realize the level of technologies and educational experiences that are available through our own local health system. M*A*S*H Camp allows students to build connections with our providers and staff and interact on a personable level in the healthcare environment. ”
Ozarks Healthcare’s M*A*S*H Camp is for students who will be entering into grades 7-12 in fall of 2023. A three-day session will be held for students entering grades 9-12 on July 24-26, and a one-day session will be held for students entering grades 7-8 on July 27. Lunch, snacks, a set of scrubs, and a certificate of completion will be provided to each student in attendance.
Students will explore different healthcare careers, including but not limited to surgery, pulmonology, rehabilitation services, primary care, nursing, and more. Ozarks Healthcare staff will also be able to share occupational information to students, such as education requirements, salary ranges, and pros and cons about practicing in their fields of expertise.
Students interested in participating in Ozarks Healthcare’s M*A*S*H Camp must complete an application that can be downloaded and printed from Ozarks Healthcare’s website at https://www.ozarkshealthcare.com/about-us/for-community/. A $20 entry fee is required. Applications, entry fee, and all requested documentation must be returned or mailed to Ozarks Healthcare’s Education Department by May 19.
Students will be notified upon acceptance into M*A*S*H Camp. For more information, call 417-505-0038.
