Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Caleb Piatt joins Ozarks Healthcare
Ozarks Healthcare recently welcomed Dr. Caleb Piatt, orthopedic surgeon, to Ozarks Healthcare Orthopedics and Spine as a new provider. Piatt joins Dr. Troy Caron, Dr. Susan Jolly, and Dr. Edwin Roeder in providing complete bone and joint care through surgical and non-surgical treatment.
“The recent addition of Dr. Piatt to our Orthopedics and Spine team is a huge asset for our health system and community,” Tom Keller, Ozarks Healthcare President and CEO, said. “With an increased need for specialty bone and joint procedures, Dr. Piatt’s experience and skillset, especially regarding newer orthopedics technologies, will benefit our patients in receiving the care they need close to home, whether that be through procedure or minimally invasive treatment.”
Piatt completed a five-year orthopedic surgery residency through the Kettering Health Network at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, earlier this summer. He served as chief resident in his last year of his residency. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. He also holds Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in chemistry from Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, Texas.
Growing up as a high school and later collegiate athlete, Piatt says medicine was always a part of his life. Receiving his own dose of orthopedic care and treatment inspired him to pursue the field as a career path.
“I had a handful of injuries as a student athlete that required me to see an orthopedic surgeon,” Piatt said. “I was amazed at their ability to fix me up and get me back to doing what I was most passionate about. For me as a physician now, that is my favorite part about practicing orthopedics – I am fortunate to get people back on their feet doing what they love, whether that’s providing for their families or certain hobbies.”
Piatt says he enjoys the variety of ages and injuries and conditions he sees as an orthopedics provider and surgeon. Piatt can see patients with any type of orthopedic issue, including those that might stem from sports injuries or joint conditions. He is also excited to incorporate new technologies into procedures at Ozarks Healthcare.
“I can perform total hip replacements through the anterior approach and have really enjoyed watching my patients have early recovery rates and great outcomes,” Piatt said. “I will also be able to provide MAKO [makoplasty] robotic total joint arthroplasties for partial knee, total knee, and total hip replacements.”
Makoplasty (MAKO) is the latest and most advanced surgical technique in orthopedic procedures to treat degenerative joint disease. In a MAKO procedure, robotic technology is used to allow for extremely precise placement of joint implants.
Piatt also conducted a major portion of his residency in hand surgery – he will be able to use this background to treat carpel and cubital tunnel syndrome, arthritis, and other conditions associated with the hand and wrist.
Piatt also said he is excited to work with Ozarks Healthcare’s physicians and live and serve his community with his family in the area.
“I’m excited to practice with other physicians at Ozarks Healthcare given their broad range of experience and education,” Piatt said. “Ozarks Healthcare seems like a close-knit family and is unique in offering multispecialty care with a ‘small town’ feel. My patients can expect to get their choice of treatment options, as well as my recommendations that I would give my own family members, whether non-operative or operative based on updated literature and my experience.”
Piatt and his wife, Amanda, have relocated to the West Plains area with their children, Tessa, 7, Taggart, 5, Graham, 3, and Gwendolyn, 1. They are also expecting a new baby. They enjoy any outdoor activity and playing sports as a family.
